Welcome to Sensitivity is Strength Coaching

Coaching and Support for Parents of Highly Sensitive, Deep Feeling, and Neurodivergent Children

Hi, I'm Brett. I’m a licensed therapist, parent coach, and a mom to two highly sensitive girls who meet the world differently.

I’m also so glad you’re here.

If you’re parenting a child who is incredibly bright, sensitive, deep feeling, reactive, anxious, fiercely independent... a child/teen who maybe knows their brain thinks differently but is often misunderstood by professionals — I want you to know: you are not alone, and you’re not imagining it.

I’ve sat where you are — wondering if I’m missing something, overwhelmed by judgments, suggestions, advice and expectations that just don't work for my kids and frustrated by labels that don’t tell the full story or give insight into what to do with them.

I created Sensitivity is Strength Coaching for families like yours. Families raising exceptional kids with nervous systems that run hot — kids and teens who might be gifted and struggling, explosive and empathetic, avoidant and insightful — all at the same time.

The Advice You’ve Probably Heard — and Why It Doesn’t Work

Are you parenting one of these incredible, complex kids?

- Twice-exceptional (2E) - gifted in some areas and struggles in others

- Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) - avoids every day demands due to high stress felt and have a strong need for autonomy and control

- Highly sensitive - easily overwhelmed, worrier, big feelings and reactions

- Sensory sensitive to light, sound, textures, etc.
- Neurodivergent and/or labeled with Autism, ADHD, ODD
(Oppositional Defiant Disorder), IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder), or DMDD (Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder).

You don't have a “problem kid.” These are kids with sensitive nervous systems living in a world that often misunderstands them.

Have you ever been told things like:

“You just need to be more consistent with discipline.”
“Don’t let them manipulate you.”
“They’ll learn if you just give them consequences.”
“They need to toughen up — life’s not always going to be kind to them.”
“They’re just spoiled / lazy / manipulative.”

Or the ever unhelpful... “Have you tried a sticker chart?”

Let me say it clearly: none of this advice works for highly sensitive, deep feeling, PDA-profile, or neurodivergent kids — and it can actually do harm.

Our kids aren't manipulative — they’re easily dysregulated and their brains may operate differently.

They’re not avoiding demands to be difficult — they’re avoiding shame and protecting their autonomy and nervous systems.

They
don’t need tougher discipline — they need deeper understanding and better regulation.

The strategies that work with more “neurotypical” children often escalate things with our kids (like charts!)

What they really need is a relationship-based, nervous system-aware, connection-first approach — and so do you.

How Do You Know If This Is FOr You?

Therapy vs. Coaching: What’s the Difference — and Which Is Right for You?

If you're a parent of a highly sensitive, deep feeling, or neurodivergent child, you’ve likely spent a lot of time looking for help — therapy, books, online advice, specialists.

Maybe you’ve tried some (or a lot) of it already.

Maybe you’re still wondering:
What do I actually need right now — therapy or coaching?

Let’s clear that up.

Therapy: Healing the Past

Therapy is a modality focused on processing emotional wounds, exploring your past experiences, and healing clinical levels of trauma, anxiety, depression, or long-standing emotional patterns that meet medical necessity.

As a licensed therapist myself, I deeply respect this work. It creates a safe space to heal from the inside out. For many, it’s a necessary and life-changing path.

But for many parents, what’s needed isn’t to go backward in parenting — it’s to move forward.

Coaching: Focused, Present, Action-Oriented

Coaching is not about fixing you or your child. It’s about giving you the tools, strategies, and mindset shifts to confidently parent your sensitive or neurodivergent child as they are — starting right now.

Coaching is:

✅ Present- and future-focused — we don’t dig deep into your childhood or history
✅ Action-oriented —
we create specific, customized plans you can implement immediately
✅ Faster-moving —
results often happen more quickly than traditional therapy
✅ Targeted —
we focus on the dynamics in your home with your unique child and what to do to help them
✅ Collaborative —
you’re not being diagnosed or treated, you’re being supported and guided

In coaching, we zero in on what’s happening day-to-day: struggle with follow through, meltdowns, demand avoidance, school resistance, sibling conflict, bedtime battles, parent burnout — and we tackle them together.

Therapy Heals. Coaching Moves You Forward.

It’s not about choosing one forever. Many of my clients benefit from both at different points in their journey.

Why Coaching Works So Well for Parents

Too many parenting programs focus on compliance over connection. But with sensitive, neurodivergent, or deep feeling kids, conventional strategies often backfire — leading to more power struggles, more meltdowns, and more disconnection.

You Don’t Need to “Fix” Your Child... You Need Support to Understand Them.

Parenting a neurodivergent, deep feeling or highly sensitive child is a profound journey. It’s also incredibly demanding. The truth is, you deserve coaching just as much as your child deserves understanding.

If you’ve ever thought:

“My child is brilliant, but can’t handle basic requests.”

“The labels don’t fit — I know there’s something more going on.”

“We’ve tried everything, and nothing works for long.”

“I just want to be able to enjoy our weekends together.”

…then you are the parent I work with.

Why Work with Brett?

Are we a match? Finding the right coach for you is essential. Here's what I deeply believe:

I believe that each person, without exception, is extraordinary exactly the way they are.

I believe that a basic need of all people is to feel seen, heard and known.

I believe that parents are the experts on their children.

I believe in the power of connection before correction.

I believe that sensory sensitivities deserve to be respected.

I believe that shame inhibits growth.

I believe in the right of each and every human to take up space and meet the world in their own authentic way.

If that resonates with you, here's what you'll get when you work with me:

✨ Language that helps your child feel seen and safe

✨ Tools that work for PDA, 2E, or sensory-sensitive profiles without sacrificing their creativity, intelligence, or confidence

✨ Boundaries that are calm, respectful, and effective

✨ Road maps for creating family rhythms that reduce conflict and sensory overwhelm.

✨ Knowledge to help you advocate for your child in systems that don’t yet “get it”

You’ll learn to trust your instincts again — and you’ll be equipped with tools that actually work for YOUR child.

Headline: A short, impactful headline that captures the essence of the offer.

So if you’re saying:

“I know my child. I just need help figuring out how to support them differently — now.”

“I’m not looking to dive into my past — I need tools for what’s happening in my home today.”

“I want to feel less reactive, more regulated, and more confident as a parent.”

Then parent coaching is the step you’ve been missing.

Let me help you see past the surface behavior to what your child is trying to communicate — so that you can respond in a way that builds trust, not fear.
