Why coach with Brett?

Helping Parents of Sensitive and Neurodivergent
Kids Find Calm, Connection, and Confidence

Parenting a highly sensitive or neurodivergent child can feel isolating and overwhelming. You’re trying your best, yet the advice you’ve been given doesn’t seem to work. What if, instead of more rules or consequences, what you and your child really needed was more understanding, better connection, and the right tools and support?

At Sensitivity Is Strength Coaching, I help parents move from survival mode to a thriving, connected home (that still has hard moments!). My approach is grounded in compassion, neuroscience, and practical strategies that help families thrive — not just cope.

Meet Your Coach

Hi, I’m Brett Welch, the founder of Sensitivity Is Strength Coaching. I’m a licensed therapist, parent coach, and mom to two deeply feeling, spirited daughters whose nervous systems run hot. I know firsthand how hard it can be to parent when traditional methods fall short.

For over 20 years, I’ve worked as a school counselor and child therapist, supporting children and parents who feel stuck in patterns of conflict, meltdowns, and exhaustion. Whether your children have been officially diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, ODD, etc. or none of the above, the most effective parenting strategies to decrease dysregulation and increase connection are the same. I'm trained in PDA (level 1 and 2 through PDANA), trauma and my coaching uses neuro-affirming, evidence-based strategies to help you become your child's most effective intervention to build long-term success.

My coaching philosophy is simple:
No parent or child is broken.
Repair is always possible.
Regulation and connection are the foundation for growth.

Our Approach

I combine evidence-based tools with empathy and real-life practicality. Instead of focusing on control or compliance, I help parents:

  • Understand your child’s nervous system and triggers.

  • Regulate yourself to build connection before correction.

  • Learn strategies that reduce meltdowns and increase regulation.

  • Rebuild confidence and trust — in yourself and in your child.

  • You’ll learn how to respond, not react, so your home can shift from chaos to connection.

What Makes Me Different

Unlike traditional parenting advice that leans on punishment, reward charts, or “tougher rules,” my philosophy recognizes that sensitive and neurodivergent kids require something different: safety, regulation, and connection.

I don’t hand out one-size-fits-all solutions. I partner with you as your coach to create personalized strategies that fit your family’s unique rhythms and needs.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower parents to become the calm, confident leaders their children need. We believe that when parents feel supported, families heal — and when families heal, children flourish.

Because sensitivity isn’t a weakness. It’s a strength.

Meet Your Coach

Hi, I’m Brett Welch, the founder of Sensitivity Is Strength Coaching. I’m a licensed therapist, parent coach, former school counselor and mom to two deeply feeling, spirited daughters whose nervous systems run hot. I know firsthand how hard it can be to parent when traditional methods fall short.

For 20+ years, I’ve worked as a mental health provider, supporting children and parents who feel stuck in patterns of conflict, meltdowns, and exhaustion. Whether your children have been officially diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, ODD, etc. or none of the above but you KNOW something is going on, the most effective parenting strategies to decrease dysregulation and increase connection are the same.

I'm trained in PDA (level 1 and 2 through PDANA), trauma-informed methods and my coaching uses neuro-affirming, evidence-based strategies to help you become your child's most effective intervention to build

Why Coaching, Not Therapy?

I used to work with parents using a therapy model, and I know many therapists who still say they do.

Here's why it didn't work and why I switched to coaching/consulting with parents...

Therapy is a healing modality using a medical model.

Therapy requires diagnosis, focusing on how problems came to be

and learning how to heal the self to address them.

Therapy is a long-term, slower process about self-reflection and self-discovery.

As a therapist, I know it can be incredibly helpful for people individually

but it wasn't what parents who came to me needed.

Parents needed to understand why things were so hard for their kids.

Parents needed parenting strategies specific to kids with BIG emotions and BIGGER behaviors.

Parents needed to know what to do when nothing else works... and they needed it now.

Parents needed coaching.

Coaching is client-led, goal-oriented, solution-focused and designed to get results

within weeks, not months or years.

In parent coaching, I combine evidence-based tools with empathy and real-life practicality.
Instead of focusing on control or compliance, I help parents:

  • Understand your child’s nervous system and triggers.

  • Regulate yourself and identify sensory triggers to build connection before correction.

  • Learn strategies that reduce meltdowns and increase regulation.

  • Rebuild confidence and trust — in yourself and in your child.

  • Learn how to respond, not react, so your home can shift from chaos to connection.

What Makes Me Different

Unlike traditional parenting advice that leans on punishment, reward charts, or “tougher rules,” my philosophy is derived from experience recognizing that highly sensitive and neurodivergent kids require something beyond the traditional parenting blueprint.

I don’t offer a million worksheets, huge anonymous groups or dozens of webinars.

I don't hand out one-size-fits-all solutions.

All coaching, consulting and correspondence is done by me, not a team.

I partner with you as your coach in small groups (12 people max) or individual formats to design personalized strategies that fit your family’s unique rhythms and needs.

My philosophy is based on the fact that sensitivity isn’t a weakness. It’s a strength.
